We are sealed as if inserted into a Holy-Spirit-envelope that is addressed to Jesus. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.” The contrast here is between the “sinful nature” and the spirit. Christian Standard Bible LOGIN, Papers Concerning GOD’s Plan of Salvation. When we do sin, God does not say He will take the Holy Spirit from us. “Then the Spirit said to Philip, ‘Go up and join this chariot,’" Acts … 8:23, “… we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies”. I believe it is the new nature that is being put in contrast to the old nature. He doesn’t want it polluted by fleshly lusts and the things to which you give yourself. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Holy spirit gives us power and helps us to stay faithful while facing trials. In other words,  verse 11 of this passage tells us that man can know the things of God through the spirit (i.e. So since the Holy Spirit is the source of life and is living in us, how does this imagery work? The more we use the Holy Spirit to become like Christ, the more His life will be in us and, thus, the more He lives in us. This involves a humble, earnest seeking to become like Jesus Christ so His life becomes our life. (Micah 3:8; Luke 1: 35) God sends out his spirit by projecting his energy to any place to accomplish his will. It is the Holy Spirit who convicts you of your need of Christ. All Rights Reserved. It is the Holy Spirit who teaches us and takes us deeper and deeper into God’s truth as we go along in our Christian life. And one of the Holy Spirit’s ministries is to help make us holy. I believe that this spirit is the new nature. This passage tells us that through the new nature, we participate in the divine nature. There are times I feel that I don’t have joy, and I get on my knees and say, “Lord, where is the fruit of joy in my life?” I find that the joy is there, down deep. In short, the new nature, i.e. New Life Now this is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit—“Christ in you, the hope of glory.” There’s nothing like this in Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and so forth, that Christ literally comes and lives in us. Our good works and all the good things that we have done are not going to save us. 3:24, “He abideth in us by the spirit He hath given us”. Nothing is hidden from Him. 2:11, “the things of God knoweth no man, but the spirit of  (Genitive of Origin, “from”) God”. Once that happens, He begins to rule in our lives. I cannot believe that it is. Paul wrote to the Romans about how God’s love has been poured out to the believer by the Holy Spirit. May I remind the reader that the Greek language rarely uses capital letters for proper nouns, not even for God, so the upper case letters and the lower case letters are interpretations, not translations. In John 3:6 we read, “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit”. The Holy Spirit gives us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control through Him. 48:16, “And now the sovereign Lord has sent me and His Spirit”. This paper is an attempt to explain why I questioned this view and my conclusions, based, of course, on Scripture. I am asking you to say, “I want Christ in my life, to be my Lord and my Savior.” I know thousands of churchgoers who need to come to Christ, led by the Holy Spirit. Mankind needs life. The Holy Spirit … Is it God Who is being contrasted with our old nature? And if the Spirit (can also be spirit) of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give you life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit (can also be spirit) who (KJV has “that”) lives in you. Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation – but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. The reason I say that is because, as I’m sure most students of God’s Word are aware, the Greek rarely capitalizes proper nouns. Surely nothing else is required if the Holy Spirit Himself were indwelling the believer. The Holy Spirit gives us new life in Jesus Christ. 2:14, “The man without the Spirit (can also be spirit) does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned”. As students of God’s Word we have the privilege and the responsibility of studying the passages that have to do with the Holy Spirit and decide, with His help, when “He” is meant and when it is not. Conviction of Sin Another reason for my questioning is found in Eph. 5:5, “….the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us” . He knows what goes on in our minds. The New Testament Scriptures clearly teach that no one has the Holy Spirit until he or she turns to God and asks to receive His indwelling presence (Luke 11:13) through faith in Jesus Christ. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what the nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit (can also read spirit) have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. When an individual accepts Christ as personal Savior, the Holy Spirit gives the believer the life of God, eternal life, which is really His very nature (Titus 3:5; 2 Peter 1:4), and the Holy Spirit comes to live within him spiritually. Rom. That is to say, the old nature is put in contrast to the new nature. Is Paul saying here that the Holy Spirit Who lives in our hearts testifies with the Holy Spirit Who lives in our hearts? He knows what goes on in our hearts. Paul said to Titus, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5). This shows us that we may participate in the divine nature, we are not divine, that is to say, the Divine Holy Spirit does not live in us. Let us examine the scriptures that have to do with the spirit living in the believer and then see what we can learn about this wonderful and gracious gift from the Holy Spirit, i.e. Anything of eternal value in this life and in eternity comes through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. the new nature),  and verse 14 tells us the same thing only in the negative, i.e. “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Our body becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit helps us live the Christian life. So just what does the Holy Spirit do for us and in us? God wants us to choose to live as Jesus lived by our free choice. We could never go to Heaven. The kingdom of God was among them in the Person of the King Himself. That is, the Holy Spirit temporarily filled them. When we read of the Holy Spirit (with upper case letters) in English translations, we are reading an interpretation of the text, not a translation. The Bible says, “The Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 2:10). That implies that the Holy Spirit is accompanying him, not in him. The phrase, “things that come from the Spirit of God” refers to God in His office of Holy Spirit. “Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Eph. He is God. I have questioned that belief for some time. The moment that we receive Christ as Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to live in our hearts. Holy spirit also moves us forward and helps us to remain on the path to life everlasting. Or where can I flee from Your presence?” (Psalm 139:7). There is only one way of salvation, and that is Christ. Yet another reason is found in Rom. The Holy Spirit is not an “it.” The Holy Spirit is a Person. But it is not possible to be a Christian at all if one does not have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. believers in Christ, that it is through the spirit in the inner being that allows us to have Christ dwell in our hearts. In every instance, the Holy Spirit came “upon” people. I have done so because that gift is spirit, and to refer to it as “spirit” can make a very complex study even more difficult to understand. Only then does God take up residence in our lives through His Son. The knowledge that the Holy Spirit of God has taken up residence in our lives, that He performs all these miraculous functions, that He dwells with us forever, and that He will never leave or forsake us is cause for great joy and comfort. Most Christians today believe that the Holy Spirit dwells in the heart of each believer. The “firstfruits of the Spirit” is not God in His office of Holy Spirit. One reason that I question that the Holy Spirit lives in the heart of man, is that basically, man is sinful and as such can not dwell with God. We are promised forgiveness when we confess sins. One more reason is found in II Peter 1:3-4, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. It is a dangerous thing to resist the Spirit. 1 Peter 1:22. I am asking you to give in to the call of the Holy Spirit. Some choose to reject Him completely and live the Christian life as if the Holy Spirit doesn’t exist. There is not a person who can follow Christ without the help of the Holy Spirit. In John 14:16-17, Jesus is talking to his disciples, and he says, “ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever - the Spirit of truth. Rom. What is it then that man needs in order to accept the things that come from the Holy Spirit? Also, I believe that many are at least aware of E. W. Bullinger’s writings on this spirit and they would be comfortable with the term “new nature”. The Holy Spirit can be in both your heart and my heart, even though we may live a thousand miles apart. Billy Graham: The Only Hope for the World, Billy Graham: A Cradle, a Cross and a Crown. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit (can also be spirit) you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit (can also be spirit) of God are sons of God”. Each of these passages states the Holy Spirit moved these prophets to write. “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me” (Acts 1:8). He helps you to do the Father’s will. Jesus said the Holy Spirit shall not speak of Himself. The Holy Spirit can love through you. Holy Spirit works in the lives of believers to renew, sanctify, and make us holy. Jesus said, “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” (John 16:8). The Holy Spirit is that part of the Trinity that lives inside all believers. The Holy Spirit lives in those in whom it is the Father’s purpose that the Spirit does so. The Holy Spirit Lives In Us. We should always be conforming more to the image of Jesus Christ, and it is the Holy Spirit who helps us in this growing process. We don't have to fear sharing the good news of what Jesus has done in our lives because Holy Spirit gives us the wisdom to navigate difficult conversations and the ability to clearly communicate our faith. If, as this verse says, the Holy Spirit abides in us by the new nature, then obviously it is not God in His office of Holy Spirit that abides in us, it is the new nature.
